A holiday photo that seemed rather ordinary, posted by Shanghai-based designer Guo Qingshan on Valentine’s Day, has astonishingly gone viral in China and even created a new tourist attraction. In Guo’s photo, which was titled “Puppy Mountain”, a mountain in the shape of a dog’s head beside the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei province was captured.
Guo’s post on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu (RedNote) received 120,000 likes within 10 days. Moreover, the hashtag “xiaogoushan” (Puppy Mountain) on Weibo accumulated millions of views.
Eager dog owners started posting pictures of their pets to seek the closest similarity. Meanwhile, numerous others made their way to Yichang to behold the mountain in person. Some of them even brought their dogs along for photo – taking.
Situated in Zigui County of Yichang, the mountain can be viewed from an observation deck, with the Yangtze River flowing in the vicinity. After Guo’s photo became popular, many people shared their own pictures taken from the same location. They only then realized for the first time that the mountain resembled a dog.
