A wealthy woman in China has captured the attention of mainland social media with a dramatic act of revenge against the staff of a high-end brand store, earning the event the title of the “most cathartic incident of the year.”
This woman, who felt slighted by the employees at a Louis Vuitton (LV) store, decided to take her revenge two months later by returning to the store with 600,000 yuan (approximately US$84,000) in cash.
Going by the alias “xiaomayouren” on the social media platform Xiaohongshu, she recounted her “infuriating” experience at the StarLight Place shopping center in Chongqing, located in southwestern China, as reported by Sohu news.
In her initial visit to the store, the woman, who was carrying a Hermes handbag, intended to purchase clothing but encountered aloof and dismissive behavior from the staff. She mentioned that the employees ignored her request for drinking water and only showed her outdated seasonal items when she had asked to see the latest arrivals. The situation escalated when the staff appeared visibly annoyed and impatient as she requested to try on dresses.
Frustrated, the woman left the store and attempted to file a complaint with the luxury brand’s headquarters, only to be met with indifference.
After stewing over the incident for two months, she returned to the LV store, this time with a large bag containing 600,000 yuan. Accompanied by her personal assistant and a friend, they selected some clothes and informed the sales staff that they would make a purchase. However, when it was time to pay, she presented the staff with the hefty bag of cash.
The sales team spent two hours counting the money, only for the woman to announce, “We don’t want to buy now. We are leaving,” once they finished. She later explained her actions on Xiaohongshu, stating, “After they finished counting it, I just took away my money and left. Why should I buy their products to help them improve their performance?”
Her story quickly went viral, with netizens lauding her actions. One commenter noted, “This ending is so satisfying. I’ve always wondered why these shop assistants act so arrogantly.” Another added, “They may sell luxury goods, but that doesn’t make them luxurious themselves.”
