A Vietnamese traveler’s heroic deed of carrying a young woman down the steep stone steps at a scenic spot in Guizhou, China, to secure emergency medical assistance for her has won extensive acclaim.
Upon noticing a young woman turning deathly pale, gripping her abdomen tightly, and wailing in agony, a Vietnamese tourist didn’t think twice. Swiftly, he hoisted her onto his back and trudged down the lengthy and precipitous stone steps in search of medical help.
Lately, the heroic act of this Vietnamese tourist in rescuing a suffering young woman in Guizhou, China, has been reported by Chinese media, attracting significant attention from netizens in both countries.
During his visit to a scenic site in Guiyang, Guizhou, the Vietnamese tourist observed a young woman looking extremely pallid, holding her stomach, and crying out in pain repeatedly. Her companion seemed utterly helpless and bewildered.
Once he learned that she was experiencing severe abdominal pain, the Vietnamese traveler made up his mind to carry her out of the tourist site, hail a taxi, and rush her to the hospital. Thanks to his timely intervention, the woman managed to overcome the critical situation. Later, she tried hard to figure out his identity to convey her gratitude.
A video capturing the moment when the Vietnamese tourist carried the woman for emergency aid was shot by someone in his group and then shared online.
The man in the video is Pham Trung Hieu, born in 1988, who is the director of a travel company in Ha Long, Quang Ninh.
When speaking to reporters, Hieu recounted that the incident occurred on February 20 at Qingyan Ancient Town, one of the four renowned ancient towns in Guizhou.
He remembered that while going down a steep slope at the site, he came across a young female tourist in her early twenties in a state of distress. She had a pale complexion and kept clutching her stomach in pain, while her companion looked lost and panicked.
Hieu stepped forward to check on her, speaking in Chinese, but she was in such intense pain that she was unable to respond. Confronted with this emergency, the Vietnamese tourist promptly decided to carry her to the entrance to find a taxi for transportation to the hospital.
“I’m 1.7 meters tall and weigh 73 kilograms, and she was around 50 kilograms, so carrying her wasn’t overly arduous. Also, I exercise regularly, so I have good endurance. However, the path was over a kilometer long, with steep and winding stone steps, which ultimately wore me out,” Hieu recounted.
When he was close to the entrance, just a few hundred meters away, his strength was almost completely drained. His arms, legs, and back ached so severely that he couldn’t go on any longer. Thus, he asked his Chinese business partner to assist in supporting the young woman for the remaining part of the journey.
Despite the cold weather, which was about 5 degrees Celsius, Hieu was soaked in sweat. “I had to stop four times on the way to regain my strength. It took about 30 to 40 minutes to reach the taxi pick – up point,” he said.
After returning to his hotel, a Chinese journalist got in touch with him for an interview upon learning about the event. The reporter also provided updates on the woman’s health condition.
“Fortunately, she received timely medical treatment and averted any serious complications. Through the reporter, she sent her sincere thanks to us,” Hieu shared.
He confessed that he was deeply touched and delighted to see his actions being recognized and widely spread, inspiring numerous people.
“I never anticipated that such a small act would draw so much attention. In a situation where someone urgently needs help, I believe anyone would do the same,” Hieu said.
