During a recent visit by Liu Jinyan, the head of the Hunnan District Justice Bureau’s Hunnan East Station Mediation Office (specializing in foreign affairs) in Shenyang, a representative of the foreign residents expressed concern, saying, “Director Yan, my foreign friend is facing a problem and doesn’t know how to resolve it.”
After looking into the matter, it was revealed that a foreign resident, identified as H, had rented an apartment in the community. Upon the expiration of the lease, the landlord discovered water damage to the flooring and refused to return the security deposit, leading to a dispute. The language barrier between the parties further complicated the situation, making it challenging to find a resolution.
Liu Jinyan, utilizing her proficiency in foreign languages, stepped in to mediate the situation. Through several discussions, the landlord ultimately agreed to return the remaining deposit after deducting a small amount for repairs, successfully resolving the conflict.
Since its inception, the “Yan Yan” (Foreign Affairs) Mediation Office has carried out 16 in-depth investigations into conflicts and disputes, visited over 50 households of foreign residents, and organized more than 30 mediation and legal education sessions related to foreign affairs.
