China’s National Immigration Administration (NIA) has committed to implementing more open policies to encourage cross-border personnel movement and fostering inclusive cooperation to strengthen global immigration governance.
This announcement was made during a sub-forum on migration management cooperation at the 2024 Conference of the Global Public Security Cooperation Forum.
The NIA also pledged to take stronger measures to combat cross-border crime and urged governments worldwide, along with the international community, to enhance dialogue and pursue coordinated actions on immigration matters.
Amy Pope, the Director General of the International Organization for Migration, praised China’s newly introduced facilitation measures, aimed at making it easier for foreigners to travel, study, or reside in the country, during her video address to the sub-forum.
The sub-forum, held in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, on Monday and Tuesday, saw the participation of around 300 attendees, including officials and representatives from 57 countries and regions, six international organizations, as well as scholars and experts.
